Physical Evaluation/Treatment
Posture, spinal mobility, flexibility, range of motion, muscle strength and movement analysis are assessed. A treatment program is structured to address the specific needs of each individual. In the acute phase, treatment emphasizes control of pain, inflammation and muscle guarding. Instruction focuses on gentle exercises, less stressful resting positions and precautions relevant to daily activities.

Posture and Functional Mobility
Emphasis is on restoration of proper postural alignment and functional mobility. The patient is instructed in spinal mobility and stability exercises specific to his or her dysfunction. Home exercise is encouraged and body mechanics training is included.

Total Body Fitness
Patients are given an individualized exercise program which includes cardiovascular fitness, strengthening and flexibility. The program is monitored and upgraded as the patient progresses.

Self Training and Return to Activity
A thorough independent home exercise program is developed with emphasis on maintaining the level of fitness achieved during the course of therapy. Patients are encouraged to view fitness and proper body mechanics as a life long commitment. An individual returning to a job that requires physical demands beyond his or capabilities may be referred to the Work Performance Center.
